We were very fortunate to have Basement Builders agree to help us re-imagine and re-build our poorly renovated basement. Before Basement Builders worked on our basement, our basement was what is delightfully called a "homeowner's special" with terrifying pre-existing electrical work, door frames that were not square, and inefficient placement of Hvac heat and cold vents, amongst a mess of other issues. Basement builders gutted the basement to bring everything to code, and then build up from the studs.

While we ran into a few bumps, the issues were dealt with promptly when time was of the essence, and within a reasonable time frame when the issues could wait. Basement Builders is an excellent contractor that emphasizes on quality and experience. For the most part, they delivered on both. Here is my experience with them. Note that unlike some other contractors I've heard, BB do not incentivize reviews before the project is finished -- everything I am writing here is on my own accord and uncompensated.

To start, the quoting process was smooth and professional. My impression of BB is a more expensive option, but after quoting with a few of their competitors -- including one that is named something about how affordable their basements are -- BB had the most competitive price for what you get. There were some upgrades that I pointed out were unreasonably priced, because the upgrade difference cost more than the full identical product I can buy in retail, which they were able to accommodate me on the price.

I really appreciated all the communication. I knew what steps were being completed next and what to expect for the next phase. I could ask questions and always get a fast response for answers. The house was always kept very clean and the workers came and went as they needed to without problems. Oh and the Reno looks exactly what we wanted. Thanks again

If you are thinking of developing your basement, I highly recommend basement builders. I retained Basement Builders to develop my unfinished basement into a legal suite. The process started by them meeting with me at the house to take measurements to design a layout. The representative essentially designed a floor plan on the spot and sent it later in the day for review. They took care of everything, project management, permitting, and schedules. They even have a design consultant who helped with picking finishings. All in all, I am very happy with the process and the final product my basement suite. They also made it very easy for me to apply for the City of Calgary grant by providing me with all the necessary information required. 5 out of 5 stars.

I had my experience with the Basement Builders company and it was really a great experience. No surprises during the quote process, they have a robust system giving you all the details about your project and prices. The Change Management process is very efficient and a piece of mind for both parties on the agreement. The project execution was flawless and delivered on time. They were very clear with communication and very responsive from the beginning of consultation with Don Payne and meeting the team Murray, Ryan and Kristina who were very helpful and accomodating with our requests. This was a very smooth project experience right from the beginning. We were in frequent communication, the project managers followed up with us often to address anything that came up along the way and they were able to ensure we could make changes along the way. We had really positive experiences with all of the different tradesman coming and going from the house, and we became quickly comfortable with them as they were entering our home while we were both home and away as a result of how friendly and approachable they were. Should we ever develop another basement again or wish to complete renovations in the future, we will only be using Basement Builders.

My basement renovation was extremely smooth and well organized. As construction can easily go sideways, I was expecting some headaches along the way. However, I was highly impressed how BB was on top of everything. All the trades were courteous and took pride in their work - very easy to work with. And the end product is stunning! I would highly recommend Basement Builders to anyone.

My wife and I had a great experience this year working with Murray and his staff from Basement Builders to design and execute on our desired short-term rental walkout basement suite, after a lot of research of possible contractors in the area. It was clear to me from our initial meetings that they had a wealth of knowledge and experience, not to mention their name alone, specializing in exactly what we needed (a basement development).

The end result was a beautiful, our ~750 square foot 1 bedroom fully compliant legal secondary suite (Jayman home, built 2021) with all appliances including washer and dryer came to life over only 4.5 months. The staff including Murray especially, were very professional and good at keeping in contact, including giving regular updates as well as being informative as to any questions/follow ups we needed pre, during and post construction. We had a good experience with Basement Builders completing our unfinished basement. Despite starting the project in winter with unfavorable weather conditions, they delivered great results. The team was professional, taking full responsibility from start to finish. They were responsive, communicative, and provided advice throughout the process, helping us design the space according to our preferences. It's been over a year since they completed the work, and they continue to offer great and timely service when needed.

Best company I’ve dealt with.
I’ve had updates and other renos done in my house and without hesitation I’d say Basement Builders are the best company I’ve dealt with. Two years after completing my basement I have called them about minor issues and they’ve been prompt in their responses and taken care of everything.
We are enjoying and appreciate our additional space.
The only beef I have with BB is that they didn’t renovate my bathrooms! They would saved me all the grief I’ve had with a very unprofessional contractor.

Finishing a basement is a big investment and it's natural to be careful about choosing the firm you entrust with the work. I'm writing this review several years after Basement Builders finished our basement and want to highlight a few things:

- The project was completed on time. Our home was visited regularly by the Basement Builders team to ensure that the work was on track.

- Extra effort was invested to protect our home during the work. The team installed a protective layer from our front door to the basement entrance. Dust was also managed well. The trades also used our basement windows (even when it must have been significant extra work) to load materials, where they could.

- No project of this scale is going to be perfect. We had quality issues, including some paint splatters on the stone for our fireplace, issues with our floating shelves,...

We had our basement done with Basement Builders this summer in Cochrane. The experience from the beginning was great. The process of interior selection was very convenient and standard selections were already great!
We appreciated a lot of the trades that came in and out of the house. Always polite, neat and respectful. This was important for us since both me and my partner work from home.
The quality of the end product is great (better than the rest of the house ;)) and on top of this the basement was finished a week earlier that expected.

The process of getting the quote and speciifications and picking the finishes was great. They paid attention to the detail and the quality of the work.That I have a five warranty for anything that might need addressing is fantastic. I think the communication during the process could have been better, other than that I am really I am really happy with the way my basement turned out.

Basement Builders was great to work with. We had an issue with the painting however Basement Builders worked with us until we were satisfied the issue was rectified.

They recently finished our basement. The quality of the work is top notch and they finished the job even earlier than promised. All the expectations and designs are done in the beginning and then you don’t have to do anything until they are finished. They also get all the permits themselves and do third party inspection and deep cleaning in the end.
The only reason I am giving 4 stars ( I score 4.9/5 but not possible here!) is that communication can be improved. For questions or concerns, email is their communication method and usually phones go to voicemail. Some emails are not answered or late. They had the concerns under their radar but no or late responses sometimes made us wonder if they’ve seen our emails. That being said the quality and schedule of their work is designed in a way that you most probably don’t even need to contact them, but I would say that in rare cases...
