Joe Bourget is my "go to" residential inspector for many reasons. He is thoughtful to both my client and me; punctual; ethical; conscientious of not only the buyers, but the sellers; very thorough and goes to great lengths to explain his findings from the inspection in a way that my buyers can understand. He provides a most comprehensive inspection report and emails it to my clients in a very timely manner. He also arranges for the termite inspection thus sparing my buyer the hassle of having to do that. He saved a recent client of mine hundred of dollars due to the fact he works for the inspection branch of Thomas Engineering. I can't say enough great things about Thomas Engineering. I scheduled to have Thomas come out to check a load bearing beam that we planned on knocking out. Scheduling was so easy and Thomas came out within a couple days of the initial call. He has been out multiple times to double check and confirm that all details on the beam were correct. It was well worth the peace of mind to have a professional engineer make sure that our contractor was doing everything correctly; especially when your dealing with the structural integrity of your home. Tommy inspected the foundation of the home during our option period in Grapevine. He came out on time as promised, conducted his inspection, and took the time to answer ALL of my questions and did not leave until I was finished with all my questions. He advised me on what I should do and what to look for, took me step by step through the house, he showed and explained to me how he was conducting his assessment, had me look at different angles of the house and parts of the floor, he did a superb job of explaining everything. Wow! Tommy came out to my home after a foundation repair company came out. They said that they would have to install multiple piers to support the foundation costing about $12k! Tommy came out and determined that while a repair was necessary, it didn't need the extensive repair that was recommended. He outlined a plan, and I received two more bids based on it. Tommy was very professional and did a great job for us last year. I cannot stress enough, how important it is to have your own independent engineering study done that is not related to, or done by the foundation company. There are many different ways a foundation company can cut corners justified by their own study. Tommy will do a comprehensive study and explain to you what needs to be done to have your foundation repaired, if in fact, you have foundation issues.
If you need a foundation repair, this unbiased evaluation will give you the basis for competitive bids.

Thomas Engineering came out to my sister's new home based on the recommendation of a foundation repair company. It was obvious that areas of the home were not level, and I was very concerned that there were foundation problems that would cost thousands to repair. My sister has been living in California for the last 20+ years, and didn't appreciate the unique situation we have in Texas with foundation problems.

We received a surprising report: The foundation was sound, and functioning as expected, but poured with a slant by the original builder! While my sister might have to take special care in leveling the stove to bake a flat cake, it appears she doesn't have to worry about cracked walls or pipes!
