Citizen Café Tel Aviv

I am just completing my fourth semester with Citizen Cafe Tel Aviv. I have really enjoyed the classes. My current teacher Dani made this so much fun. Most importantly, the class has given me so much more confidence to speak Hebrew and not be afraid to make mistakes. I am really looking forward to the next semester.

Great value for money! I have improved my Hebrew massively over the last three years. Speaking more fluently, not afraid to make mistakes 😉 and to correct them straight away. Getting all the relevant phrases and sayings that make you sound more natural like a Citizen of Tel Aviv 😍😁💪Warning... You get addicted to this school... Nothing tastes the same afterwards 😉😍🤩

I was afraid to start but the teachers at Citizen Cafe created a warm welcoming envoirnment. Its been almost two years now and I can speak Ivrit! Has it been easy? No, but then again nothing good comes easy. Do they make it fun? Yes. Will I continue? Absolutley.

I highly recommend Citizen Cafe for anyone who is serious about learning Hebrew. It’s really the best method of learning Hebrew.
Love all the teachers! They were fantastic! The students were from everywhere around the globe. So interesting to be able to sit on zoom and converse in Hebrew with classmates from around the world! The speak ups were really a lot of fun…and such a fun, effective way to learn. If anyone is making Aliyah, working with Israelis, or just learning Hebrew I highly recommend this.

In my two years of taking online classes with Citizen Café, I’ve learned so much more than how to speak Hebrew: I’ve learned about the music and TV shows and character of Modern Israel; I’ve learned words that came to Hebrew from English, Yiddish, French, Arabic, Farsi, and Russian; and I’ve even learned how to interrupt people and be impolite like a real Tel Avivian (though I’m still not great at that).
My classmates have been in London and Canada and the United States and Spain and Germany and Croatia, or living in Israel but originally from South Africa and India and Romania and Russia, Jews and non-Jews, each with their own reason for wanting to learn how to speak Hebrew.
I grew up going to Jewish Day Schools and learning the grammar of Hebrew, but at Citizen Café it’s about talking and listening and using the language instead of studying it. Each instructor brings...

I have tried many different ways to learn conversational Hebrew to no avail. Then, chose Citizen Cafe. And, soon afterwards my vocabulary grew. Some think it is too pricey, and after 4 semesters, and registered for 2 more ... it is worth every dollar. The practice groups are key to successful speaking and having confidence to just talk. The teachers know this and are encouraging. Sometimes it is daunting when other students lived in Israel and know more vocabulary. The teachers recognize this and acknowledge your growth and give positive feedback to keep you motivated. I recommend this school. I can now hold a simple conversation and understand most Hebrew. It helped me also to interpret prayers.... so now I know what I am speaking in Hebrew. So, do it. It is amazing.

Learning Hebrew at Citizen Cafe (by zoom) was really fun! I moved quickly through the levels as I was already comfortable with the language. The style is engaging and the teachers are fantastic. I. met classmates from all over the world.

I've been with Citizen Cafe for over 2 years now. Besides learning Hebrew, which was my main goal, I was so pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the entire community is. The teachers are great and make learning Hebrew so much fun. In addition, I have made friends from all over the world during my classes and practice session. I highly recommend Citizen Cafe to everyone. I honestly can not say enough of how much I love this community and of course, learning Hebrew as well.

I can’t say enough about how great CCTA is. I do the courses online, and the teachers manage to keep everyone engaged, connected, and involved. My Hebrew has improved dramatically, and I enjoy the classes tremendously….something that was never true when I was a kid in Hebrew school! It’s a blast, the highlight of my week, and I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn Hebrew or build on their skills.

A unique method of learning Hebrew with high quality teachers and in an atmosphere full of energy.

Initially I planned to do just one class with Citizen Cafe to jump-start my Hebrew learning. But I loved my first class so much that I carried on. And here I am, a year later and now in level "Yellow", i.e. my 4th class. Still enjoying it very much. The online classes have a great format and the teachers are excellent.

i love being a cafe citizen! where to start? the method? it works! the “faculty”? charming! encouraging! engaging! the method? extraordinary! unusual! challenging! fun! the cc community? friendly! interesting! supportive! i’ve learned in three or four different ulpan settings over more than 40 years. this experience has become one of the most important and meaningful — and fun!!—experiences of my life. we learn how israelis speak hebrew TODAY! every time i’m in shiur or a practice group i’m transported to tel aviv hanging with my people. it’s so cool having friends all over the world (and in israel) who share my passion for israel, the jewish people, and hebrew. needless to say i’m obsessed! highly recommend!

I enjoy learning with Citizen Cafe, and believe that their method is effective. The teachers are engaging, the classes are fun, and I'm amazed at the progress I've made in 3 semesters! The practice sessions are a valuable tool. I have virtually met interesting people, some of whom I've actually met in person, both in my hometown and in Israel. Highly recommend!

Wow, it's coming up on almost a year. The method at Citizen is very effective - we talk in Hebrew all the time. Each level builds more skills, confidence, and understanding of how Israelis communicate. I have a new global network of friends, my classmates, that I've met via zoom and we are a community learning together. The instructors have a great combination of energy and patience. If I could give 6 stars I would.

The instructors are fabulous and my Hebrew has improved immensely -- I honestly think it is better now than it was when I lived there for 6 years! The office is sometimes not 100% organized (if they were, it wouldn't be a true Israeli experience!) but everyone is easy to work with. If you want to learn and/or improve your Hebrew, this is by far the best place to do so.

People! If you ACTUALLY want to learn to speak modern Hebrew, run or Zoom to Citizen Cafe!! I tried two Ulpans, Berlitz and private lessons- Citizen Cafe was the only one that gets you speaking full sentences from the beginning! The teachers are consistently outstanding and the class time goes by in a flash! It’s fun, it’s effective, you’ll meet people from all over the world and you’ll end up speaking a new language before you know it! Amazing program, amazing staff and teachers !

I love it! It's a great method, I would like for it to move a bit faster though I think I have the capacity - and also maybe 3 times a week.

I’ve studied Hebrew over the past three years. What Citizen Cafe has brought to me is an opportunity to engage. I go to class twice a week and have the opportunity to participate in practice sessions which has been instrumental in maintaining a steady progression and actually speaking the language. It's one thing to learn the alphabet and grammatical rules, it's an entirely separate question to speak practically to other people in Hebrew on an almost daily basis.

I only have praise for the process at Citizen Cafe. Here, you put your notebook down, you build trust with your teachers and with your fellow students. It's a non-judgemental environment where we learn by trying and making mistakes - it's a wonderful process that mimics how you learned your native language in the first place; by listening, observing, speaking and repeating that process in a meaningful way.
