In 2003, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at age 54 that got progressively worse over the next several years. In 2017, I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland, started having constant bouts of IBS-D, brain fog, joint pain, had constant UTIs and brain fog, and just felt lousy most of the time. In 2018, my new primary care physician ordered a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. The endoscopy revealed that I had gluten sensitivity. No one in my family has ever had celiac or gluten sensitivity. So, I stopped eating gluten. I learned that my gluten sensitivity was the likely cause of my thyroid issues (which my new doctor told me was Hashimoto’s thyroiditis).
