Deck Helmet

The guys working on the deck did a great job and I am very happy with the finished product. Communication as to when people and supplies were showing up was pretty lousy - either got notified less than 24 hours and/or by people actually enroute.

Replaced our deck with composite

We had a great experience with Deck Helmet!! We had a deck that was falling apart and the guys at Deck Helmet got us priced right for an unforseen expense and helped us refurbish our old wood deck with a new compsite flooring with vinyl rails. When they found a few small joists that had rotted out, they did the right thing and replaced them for our safety at no additional cost. I hired Deck Helmet to replace old decking with new Trex composite and replace all railings. One deck was wood and one was first generation composite, both very old. The salesman didn’t explain much to me and there was conflicting information between what he told me and what I saw on the web site. Their 800 number needs work. The power washing damaged a large window screen. (Deck Helmet not responsible for that damage and I knew that.) The construction crew showed up without warning or planning. The builders did a very nice job on the deck. However, after the job was done I was upset to find some of their trash thrown into the woods behind my house. Not.good.at.all. Giving a check to the crew on completion day was stressful because I couldn’t get a paid receipt at that time. I have since received that paid receipt but I had to call for it. We contracted Deck Helmet to apply a coating on our deck in Dec 2016. The work was poorly done July 2017--one very thin coating. We submitted a "punchlist" and, after pretty much nagging them via email, the work was completed in Aug 2019--yes, two years later! The work was sloppy, but at least there was more than one thin coat applied. Meanwhile, we could not use our deck/deck furniture for almost three whole summers in case they were to come to do the work. This April, as we were finally putting our deck canopy up, we discovered a small section of coating was chipping and submitted a complaint via their website and email. Their response was that the two-year labor warranty had expired so we had two options: 1. do the work ourselves and they would provide a bucket of coating and a brush; or 2. for $4950, they would come out and recoat all horizontal surfaces on the...

Good quality and done quickly.

The crews that disassembled the old deck were careful to keep the structure of the deck intact. They fixed minor issues with the 2x8's and spray painted the spindles and posts.
The installation crew took their time to carefully measure and cut the Trex product. The finished deck looks great and is much sturdier than our old wooden deck.

I had my old decking replaced with composite material and the vertical posts painted just 2 months before the pandemic hit. The finished job is beautiful. I have been working from home since the end of March and so glad I can enjoy my refurbished deck almost daily. It looks brand new, and is a breeze to clean.
