Citizen Café Tel Aviv

I highly recommend Citizen Cafe for anyone who is serious about learning Hebrew. It’s really the best method of learning Hebrew.
Love all the teachers! They were fantastic! The students were from everywhere around the globe. So interesting to be able to sit on zoom and converse in Hebrew with classmates from around the world! The speak ups were really a lot of fun…and such a fun, effective way to learn. If anyone is making Aliyah, working with Israelis, or just learning Hebrew I highly recommend this.

In my two years of taking online classes with Citizen Café, I’ve learned so much more than how to speak Hebrew: I’ve learned about the music and TV shows and character of Modern Israel; I’ve learned words that came to Hebrew from English, Yiddish, French, Arabic, Farsi, and Russian; and I’ve even learned how to interrupt people and be impolite like a real Tel Avivian (though I’m still not great at that).
My classmates have been in London and Canada and the United States and Spain and Germany and Croatia, or living in Israel but originally from South Africa and India and Romania and Russia, Jews and non-Jews, each with their own reason for wanting to learn how to speak Hebrew.
I grew up going to Jewish Day Schools and learning the grammar of Hebrew, but at Citizen Café it’s about talking and listening and using the language instead of studying it. Each instructor brings...

I have tried many different ways to learn conversational Hebrew to no avail. Then, chose Citizen Cafe. And, soon afterwards my vocabulary grew. Some think it is too pricey, and after 4 semesters, and registered for 2 more ... it is worth every dollar. The practice groups are key to successful speaking and having confidence to just talk. The teachers know this and are encouraging. Sometimes it is daunting when other students lived in Israel and know more vocabulary. The teachers recognize this and acknowledge your growth and give positive feedback to keep you motivated. I recommend this school. I can now hold a simple conversation and understand most Hebrew. It helped me also to interpret prayers.... so now I know what I am speaking in Hebrew. So, do it. It is amazing.

Learning Hebrew at Citizen Cafe (by zoom) was really fun! I moved quickly through the levels as I was already comfortable with the language. The style is engaging and the teachers are fantastic. I. met classmates from all over the world.

I've been with Citizen Cafe for over 2 years now. Besides learning Hebrew, which was my main goal, I was so pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the entire community is. The teachers are great and make learning Hebrew so much fun. In addition, I have made friends from all over the world during my classes and practice session. I highly recommend Citizen Cafe to everyone. I honestly can not say enough of how much I love this community and of course, learning Hebrew as well.

Most of the teachers are terrific and I feel I have progressed. Thank you.
Practice sessions are great, but since I am in Boston, I find the times inconvenient (mostly late morning or mid-day when I am working). Early morning practice sessions (boston time) would be great.
My biggest complaint: I find the mid-semester call with the teacher useless...a thinly-veiled assessment of how many students will continue, so you can do your budget. It is only half-way through and the teachers are already asking you about the next semester. These should be voluntary!
Overall, however, a terrific teaching method and great teachers.

I loved every second I spent in Citizen Café: they have a very innovative and effective method that allows you to interact in Hebrew since the very beginning. I can't recommend them more! ❤️

I can’t say enough about how great CCTA is. I do the courses online, and the teachers manage to keep everyone engaged, connected, and involved. My Hebrew has improved dramatically, and I enjoy the classes tremendously….something that was never true when I was a kid in Hebrew school! It’s a blast, the highlight of my week, and I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn Hebrew or build on their skills.
