Chubby Trout

Came with a party of 9 on Dec 28th for my Mother's Birthday. The fish dishes were all pretty bad, to put it nice.. Orders were going to the wrong tables all evening, it was a mess. The two who got steak enjoyed it, even tho one steak had to be recooked because it was extremely well done, when medium rare was ordered.. They tried recooking about all our fish dishes because they were either wrong in some way or just not at all good.. Never have I had fried Perch that i was unable to eat, not because of being fishy, but because the thick breading tasted like raw flour and absorbed every bit of saliva in your mouth making you almost choke. The pan seared fish dish that was on special was definitely baked and overdone, shriveled and dried out.. So on and so on.. Worst fish dishes we have ever had, honestly. My husband and I live nearby, but this was our first time eating at the Chubby Trout. The restaurant is adorable, both inside and out. It looks like a barn and has a very cool country vibe. We were immediately greeted and seated by friendly staff. The server was very attentive and the food came quickly. It was my husband's first time having sushi. We tried the Spiced Salmon roll and the California Roll. Both were absolutely delicious! Neither of us drink alcohol anymore, but for those who do they have a full cocktail bar and the drinks I saw looked amazing. And we got our two rolls and sodas for $27! We both agreed that we will definitely be back and highly recommend that you give them a try if you are in the area.
Also, if you don't like seafood, they also serve steak and some chicken dishes.

First time here, I got the Cali, and it was delicious! Will definitely come back again. I loved the look of the place and the service was top notch!

We had a wonderful time with our friends there. Our waitress, Bailey was fantastic. They're gluten-free menu there is a really good one.

Dropping off the toll road into Elkhart found me wanting good food on the last day of this trip. A short discussion later and we settled on the Chubby Trout.

Being in Middle America, when I opened the menu, I was more than a little surprised. Everything from sushi to steaks and anything in between.

The atmosphere on a Saturday night was good. Families and friends, out and about laughing and enjoying. We didn’t have to wait but we strolled through the door at 5 pm, (as we left, people were waiting to be seated).

Food wise, I was hoping to end this trip on a healthy note. The almond Walleye sounded delicious but the smoked prime rib won out at the last second.

Our orders arrived in a timely fashion. Both of ours arrived rare, (my partner ordered medium rare) and they were flavorful. Maybe a little too strong on the smoke with a...
