I am so grateful to Dr Cohn and her staff for their patience and care! In my mid-50s I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea; I lost weight, I tried sleeping on my side, I started CPAP - and ended up with perioral dermatitis, which took six months of antibiotics to resolve, so I stopped it - and nothing worked. I finally found an excellent pulmonologist who went over my entire history and listened to my concerns with care, and then urged me to reach out to Dr Cohn for help. I'm a very squeamish dental patient; even regular cleanings are a challenge, so I had automatically discounted this as an option when I was diagnosed. But at that point I decided I needed to give it a try. The entire experience was so much easier than I thought it would be. After five months of adjusting to the appliance, which included catering to my concerns about loosening the grip to protect my crowns, much generous advice from Dr Cohn - and greater effort on my part to sleep on my side as much as possible - I took another home sleep study; I dropped from over 39 AHI/hour to 5 AHI/hour and my diagnosis went from severe to mild. I never expected to see such a dramatic change, especially since I had such a severe case to begin with, and I am enormously grateful to Dr Cohn for all she did for me. Don't dismiss this option if, like me, you area difficult dental patient; Dr Cohn will make it work for you.
