Avoid at All Costs: Shady Accounting Practices and Shoddy Service

I am writing to warn potential clients about my extremely negative experience with Seward. Their incompetence and unethical practices have caused significant financial and emotional stress.

I was initially drawn to this company based upon their glowing reviews and knowledgeable front. However, their services were anything but professional. The financial reports they provided were riddled with errors, inconsistencies, and outright inaccuracies. I was given a 2023 report for filing taxes but unfortunately at a quick glance our tax preparer identified several red flags. Just two example, they grossly underestimated my health insurance expenses and reported negative office supply costs, which is simply impossible. When we logged onto quickbooks we quickly realized that they had made several changes to 2023 books since Seward gave us our tax docs two weeks prior. This is a HUGE red flag.

Again, Seward gave me new reports and i was able to schedule another appointment with our Tax preparer right before the tax deadline. Once again, we identified multiple errors that needed lengthy corrections so I was unable to file my taxes on time. Seward did pay the tax preparer fee for the second appointment but not the first, they also filed an extension for me.

Fast forward a couple of months, I was sent an email inquiring about classifying a few charges. One of which was a charge dated for 2023. I asked MULTIPLE times of this would effect our 2023 taxes, to which Seward completely dismissed and ignored. Despite multiple attempts to contact them, they have consistently ignored my concerns and those of other dissatisfied clients. I personally know of six other businesses who have had similar experiences. Here it is October and I am just now able to file my taxes due to the lengthy clean up required from another accounting professional.

To make matters worse, their negligence resulted in the need for a tax extension, causing unnecessary anxiety and financial penalties. The worst part about it, upon giving Seward notice to discontinue my business with them they require a thirty day notification. Which means we paid for a full month service we did not receive.

My advice, if you use this company check your audit logs. To pay $850 a month for less than 2 hours of work a month (with 50% of it being wrong mind you), is completely outrageous. It’s even more outrageous to wait months on end for a simple response to a basic question.

I strongly advise anyone considering this company to look elsewhere. Their incompetence and lack of professionalism make them a serious liability.
