Back in July of 2020, I signed a land contract on a property in Michigan with Local Home Investment. My family and I have been living in the home since then. LHI has been a compassionate and agreeable company to work with throughout my tenancy. Beyond that, LHI has gone above and beyond, Jim especially. He's very committed to doing right by his tenants and frequently goes the extra mile. In a world full of slumlords, it's such a breath of fresh air to have a landlord who cares.
Throughout the signing process for my home, Jim was very direct with me and we settled on terms with a minimum of fuss. He was very up-front about everything with the home instead of trying to hide or embellish anything, even encouraging me to get the home inspected before I signed anything. He has dedicated his life and business to helping people own their own homes and that drive was evident in our interactions.
Jim highly values communication. Even if you run into problems with the home or paying rent, he will work with you so long as you stay in contact and give it your best effort. When I was struggling to pay rent, he offered me a job instead of an eviction notice. I have seen him dedicate himself to helping a tenant who lost her home due to a gas explosion next door through buying her a car, helping raise donations for financial and material needs, and acting as chauffeur to make sure she was able to get things done.
I've always felt that managing rental properties is a job that needs a lot of compassion, especially since so many are struggling these days. I'm pleased to see that there are still people out there who consider their tenants as human beings rather than just a bottom line. I wholeheartedly recommend getting a home through LHI. Without them, I would still be stuck in a cramped, overcharged, run-down trailer in a terrible mobile home park. Instead, I'm in a home big enough for my family out in the country and I'm getting ducks this spring! #LifeGoals
