I started going to Free Body Physical Therapy one week after a severe ankle sprain, and 2.5 weeks before a backpacking trip I planned with my dad. I had just gotten out of a soft cast and I went in with a goal of giving myself the best shot possible at going on this trip. I truly did not think I was going to be able to go, but with the help of Dr. Marissa Nemec and Free Body PT (as well as a supportive brace), I was able to complete the 27 mile trip with 35 lbs on my back. With further work after my trip, I am now back to walking, running, biking, and climbing without additional support or pain.

I came into Free Body PT having never done PT before with a spiral fracture in my tibia and fibula. To say I felt at odds of making a full recovery and feeling normal again at the beginning of my journey is an understatement. I apologize for the length of this…but it’s important to get the story straight the first time.

After years of on-again, off-again relationships with working out…and years of shoulder pain as well…I finally spoke to a personal trainer friend and my primary care doctor. Both recommended physical therapy. I knew I wanted to visit a place where I was not just a number or viewed as their cash machine with a pulse. Being able to know and see the owner(s) of the business consistently made sense to me, as people who run their own business want it to succeed and have more skin in the game than your average hourly/salaried therapist. Their livelihoods have a direct connection to your well-being.

Usually when I tweak my back it tends to linger for a long period of time but this time I was pretty much back to normal in a matter of weeks. I had a fantastic experience working with Marc at Free Body. He always spent the entire appointment working directly with me -- there are no physical therapy assistants involved. He not only taught me the exercises but also gave me specific feedback to ensure I was getting the most out of them. I also loved that he would record (on my iPhone) me doing the exercises so I could review later when doing my PT at home.
