Chubby Trout

Tanner was great. His service was absolutely was amazing and that’s coming from someone who’s been in the industry for over 10 years. I’ve been all over the area as a server, trainer, bartender, and manager. He’s a good employee who I hope is valued. Checked in regularly, offered seasonal menu items as well as his personal favorites, and refilled my water continuously. Sushi was amazing. Definitely cold in the building but after a White Russian I didn’t mind much.

Great place to get food for birthdays and even formal events. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal and good prices(not cheap but still a good price).

Cool place, came from hellinois for a seminar. Had some drinks. Tan & Meg were great. Once back in town here I'll definitely go back.

Was in town from Texas for work. I have to say this place was amazing!! Sushi was great and the smoked prime rib was delicious! Tanner and Meg took care of me at the bar. They were both amazing! Very knowledgeable on the selection of draft beers and the menu. Their attitude and customer service were top notch! If you ever find yourself in Elkhart you have to make time to stop in and give this place a try!!

We were in town for some training for work and stumbled across this place and ohhhh man how lucky were we? I have been to a lot of great restaurants with similar menus but this place knocked it out of the park. Our server Bailey was amazing to start. The sushi, the shrimp the ahi tuna, the ribeye and the craft beer was second to none, we live four hours north in Michigan and I will definitely be making a drive down in the summer months to bring my wife back. Whoever owns this gem fell into the best talent as far as management and staff I’ve seen in a long time. Kudos!! 💯👍🏻 PS we even bought some of their awesome merch!

Edited: 11.28.2025 -- This is our go-to restaurant when we're in IN. We went for dinner this time. Many thanks to Dani for providing us with top-notch service and these delicious nachos. Our meals were absolutely delicious. True confession: I forgot to take pics of our drinks & dinners (prime rib mac & cheese & a burger); we were starving 😋

Delicious! I had fried perch which was crunchy and tasty. My husband had the prime rib cooked perfectly. Love the friendly service. We need to go to Chubby Trout more often!

Siera and Makena were great! Came in for a drink and they were very welcoming.

First timers will be back ! Loved the harvested barnwood decor 💕 Extensive menu. Delicious crab bisque, unique. If possible, mention to your waitstaff to inform patrons of the bisque drizzle (I may have omitted the crab mayo, a bit too much for me). The Cajun pasta was wonderful!

Weekly date night recommendation from hubby's coworker. The restaurant is appropriatly seafood themed yet definitely leans towards classy rather than campy. We both had the crab pepper bisque which was delightful. Then we both had the bluegill. It was fried very well. Juicy & crispy with a very light fish taste. However, it doesn't taste like bluegill at all. We both grew up eating many a bluegill, but farm raised bluegill and wild caught are worlds apart in taste. It's our own fault for expecting that similar taste when realistically that wouldn't even be possible. It was very well prepared though. Finally, I could not resist bringing home a piece of that decadent carrot cake. It was rich, moist, creamy and smile inducing. It also took 3 days to eat it all lol. We'll be back to try a different entree next time and take home another piece of cake!

Great experience from start to finish. The entire way home we kept asking ourselves why we had never been to Chubby Trout before?!
Calamari absolutely amazing. Fish tacos stunning. Prime rib sandwich fabulous. Service excellent Dani did a spectacular job. Not often in today's world to have such a great experience.

Great food and service. Only minor complaint was it gets really loud and sound just bounces everywhere.

The Chubby Trout has became my wife and I’s favorite place to eat for many reasons. The food, the staff, drinks, and for me the sushi. It never seems to fail that every time we come we get the amazing, friendly, and personable server Bailey! We love having her and we love Chubby Trout! If you haven’t come here YOU NEED TO!!!

This place is very charming. The atmosphere is lively. The staff is friendly. The food is absolutely delicious.

The coconut shrip with pina colada dipping sauce was delicious.

Great sushi

Chosen from a friend's suggestion and I must say this is hands down the best food, service and bang for your buck establishment we've come across!! Our server Tiffany was above and beyond exceptional!!! Thank you for making my lil bday celebration SO memorable!!! The mac N cheese, captain crunch sushi, su sue tacos and carrot cake will be daydreams til we return!!!

My wife loves the blue gill meal; it has more fillets than any other restaurant wr go to. The sushi lunch combo is a great bargain; 16 pieces of good sushi for $15.

We spent a great moment, I love the sushi and they make a delicious margaritas.

The sea bass with butternut squash risotto was tasty, but the broccolini inedible (couldn't cut it with the knife). Service was slow. We weren't in a hurry and the sea bass more than made up for the broccolini so four stars.

2nd visit! I stopped here a year ago and the experience was so good I made it a destination when I had the opportunity to return this year to the area.
