On the whole the inspection was fine. However, I had three major concerns with the inspection.
One: asbestos tape was discovered on my pipes by the inspector and he told me to cover the asbestos with a particular type of tape. When I had an asbestos specialist come out, he told me that was "absolutely not" the right thing to do and could, in fact, expedite the potential of asbestos fibers going into the air.
Two: the crawl space in the basement was clearly never inspected. The day after the inspection, the crawl space was walked on/in and the presence of cobwebs throughout the area, plus the presence of issues in the area that were not reported- such as dampened dirt and areas of concern with erosion in the area- indicated that it would have been impossible for the area to be inspected.
Three: Cast-iron pipes were throughout the house, and they have approximately a 50-year life span. The house is 60 years old. The inspector never brought these pipes to my attention as a potential issue that would need to be addressed soon.
These three issues make me concerned about the validity and fidelity of the rest of the report. As your company came recommended by my my realtor, it concerns me that I have doubts about the report. Please feel free to call me concerning how best to have these issues addressed.
Thanks-
