I am one of his x employees. I haven't been there for 14 months. I don't know why my name is still being mentioned at these reviews when I'm not even there . All of this bashing on his employees and x employees has nothing to do with them . Its him and what he Instructs us to do and not to do in Ethical and uethical situations . One of the posts mentioned , posted about 4 months ago that I kept hanging up on her I wasn't even there. Thats because he tells the employees who answers the phone to use my name. OR he tells the employees not to answer the phone when a irate pt calls . ( their name shows up on caller ID). Its happened to me !!....all of this bashing is the employees fault . I had an absolutely terrible experience here. I left my old dentist because he was condescending and sexist, I came here only to find an incompetent one. While the hygienist performed the smoothest and most painless cleaning of my dental history, that was the only positive from my interactions with this establishment.
I was informed by the dentist I needed a cap on my tooth, that we had found it in time to not need a root canal. He performed the procedure and left one of his assistants to place the temporary cap. I left, only needing to return a few hours later because the cap had not actually been placed securely. They secured it and sent me on my way. I asked the receptionist before leaving if I would need pain meds or anything, she said she never had. For 7 days I was in extreme pain, I was rotating Tylenol and Advil and popping them like candy. Is concerned about any issues or pain. The doctor calls me at home the next day make sure everything‘s OK. 5 stars are not enough. The hygienist is by far the best hygienist I’ve ever had I came here last year. and have not regretted anything. It’s amazing all the modern equipment he has for your teeth and gums. Horrible experience with staff and billing— same as several other reviewers have noted. Hated giving them even 1 star.
Son needed crowns we were told we the procedure was $7000 and they had checked with our insurance for coverage. We paid the $7000 up front prior to work being done and we expected about $2200 back from our insurance company.
Well Buchwalds office never got pre approval from insurance ( not even sure they called them)
The claim was denied but we had paid in full so we assumed we were paid up with Buchwald. After the work was done we were told we were going to have to pay more for treatment.
They never communicated the amount or why the changes in price.
The amount was $4000 more and we found that out after they filed a claim with our insurance.

Patients Beware of Fraudulent Billing and Insurance Claim Practices at Buchwald Family Dentistry in Richardson, TX

While we have no complaints over the care we have received over the years from Dr. Max and his immediate staff, the new office staff including billing and insurance is an absolute train wreck.

They do not follow proper pre-authorization procedures. When they do submit a claim, it has incorrect codes and includes charges that are beyond what is considered reasonable, customary and contracted pricing with the insurance carrier.

If you do choose to work with this office, make sure you get everything upfront in writing. Follow up with your insurance provider in advance for pre-approvals as well. Do not trust that Buchwald Dentistry will work it out for you in advance.

Love Dr. Buchwald! I have been a patient for over 20 years. I do have problems with their billing person recently. They are asking me to pay more than the contracted amount allowed by Bluecross. My EOB says one thing and want me to pay another amount. To me it's sneaky. While speaking to her today, trying to get an explanation, she threatend to turn me over to collections and hung up on me. Not appreciated at all! I have contacted my insurance for further investigation. It may be time for me to find another Dentistry office. I sure wish this person handling the billing process wasn't so rude and this experience never happened. So sorry to complain! Dr. Maxey you're a great dentist!
