Pristine Home inspections did a fantastic job for me in inspecting my house. They were very thorough in inspecting all aspects of my new house from major to minor items. Moreover, the inspector made a point of explaining in detail all the data he had collected and communicating it in a way that was clear and helpful. Moreover, the report that was generated was similarly lucid and informative with accompanying pictures and recommendations for amending problems. Finally, when I called Pristine Inspections to ask for help with a question about furnace maintenance, he came over, helped me get into the furnace, modelled for me how to get the filters in and out, and then left me with a couple new filters and a special tool to open up the filter compartment--all at no extra cost! John Cheney did our inspection on a home we are purchasing in Urbana. The home has a vaulted ceiling in the great room. John was able to determine using infrared, that what we thought were some missed spots in a bad paint job, were actually showing where insulation was missing. Had John not used the infrared, we would never have know this. He was able to confirm what he thought when he got up in the attic. Using the infrared, he was able to show us exactly where this was and saved us the cost of having to repaint the entire room. I'd never again have an inspection without using infrared! John was also very good at answering our questions and explaining things in a way we could understand.

We had a strange odor in our new house which was under construction. We thought it smelled like ammonia and stopped construction in fear that we might need to do some demolition to remove the source of the problem. With John’s help and his discussion with our general contractor, we were able to identify the source as a salamander heater which had been left in the master bedroom closet. After it was removed and the house aired out for a few day, the odor was gone and we are moving forward with construction.

John did a very thorough and detailed inspection of our home before we bought it. He pinpointed everything that needed to be fixed and repaired in order for the house to be up to code and in functioning order. Definitely worth the time and money!
