My wife, Pam, had a rare, progressive neurological disease, PSP. The Mayo Clinic diagnosed her in January 2013; there are no procedures or medications which will reverse, or slow the progression. By May, Pam needed 24/7 caregiver assistance as her balance deteriorated, resulting in falls. Susan had just come off another client assignment and was my wife's primary caregiver over the next year, as I increased Home Instead's 18 hrs/wk to ~40 hours per week over six days. Home Instead added two additional caregivers to cover my request of increased hours since Pam could not be alone by herself. As Pam had more motor skill difficulties, and required more care for daily activities, I increased Home Instead's hours to nearly 60 hours per week, which required more caregivers.
